TRAITORS!!! It had been 10 years since Ravenna's father secured this part of Socorro and it's lords agreed to submit to his rule. Since the unification of the world, rebellion had been a very rare occurrence, but for a whole city to do so was unacceptable. An example had to be made of Madrig.

Ravenna made it to an outpost not too far from the city where she met up with the field commander Col. Lionara. As she approached he bowed before her, which she acknowledged as he straightened back up. "Well Colonel, what is the current situation?"

"My Lady, the enemy has a trench line around the city of Madrig which is proving difficult to penetrate. In response, we have dug our own trenches to surround them and hopefully they will begin to run out of supplies soon. We outnumber them vastly, but we are unable to charge their lines without taking far too many casualties."

Ravenna thought about this for a second and said, "Very well Colonel. Would you mind escorting me to the frontlines so that I may observe them myself? Surely the two of us together can figure out a way to penetrate their lines. After all, we are both military commanders raised in war."

Col. Lionara slightly bowed his head and said, "I would be honored My Lady."

Satira couldn't get drunk easily, so her idea of a long night usually entailed a few loose women, a lot of cheap food and a lot of fluids; last night had been no exception, although she was woken up early by a lot of running and shouting outside. "Mmm-wha...?" she mumbled, pushing herself up and trying to peer out the window. She couldn't quite see, though; she cursed and pried at the arm wrapped around her so she could crawl out of bed and look out properly.

What was going on? It looked like people were marshaling for an attack or something. Goddammit, how far would she have to run to get away from all the fighting? To find some place where the locals realized fucking was much more fun? Not that a good fight wasn't fun by itself, but large-scale fights like this? They didn't solve anything, it just meant peace and sex had failed earlier.

Maybe whoever was starting this shit just needed to get laid really hard. Well, that was something she could help out with!

"Hey you," she grunted, poking the nearest warm body, "wha's goin' on out there? Looks like a fucking warzone." She started to get dressed as she waited for a response.

Said warm body groaned, but pried herself out of bed and went to look. "Oh, um, yeah. Madrig City's rebelling against Lady Hawke, and I guess she's going to stamp it out before the tourists catch wind." She groaned and rubbed her forehead. "Fuck, I was supposed to be out there...!"

"They ain't left yet, get yer shit together and sneak out to your unit, they won't see you until it's time to leave anyway." Satira was ready by then, and she paused to check the systems on her gauntlets. "Good to go..." The chick didn't seem in too much of a hurry, so Satira decided to motivate her, by spinning her around and giving her the hard making-out she deserved after a sweet night like that. "Go get 'em, bitch," the bounty hunter said with a grin, letting her go and walking out the door.

Naturally there wasn't anywhere to go since the whole city was buzzing about the attack, so Satira figured the only way things would get settled was if this insurrection was put down fast so they could go back to the usual order of business. They were hiring mercenaries, so she drifted over and acted like she was with them; nobody felt like challenging her about it.

Now here she was, right behind the front where a blue-haired woman was acting like she owned the place. A quick scan with her computer indicated that the woman was Ravenna Hawke, the Warlord of Socorro, and that she indeed owned the place so she had every right to act like it. Damn, she was hot though. Satira decided to stick close to her from that point on.

Ravenna's ride with the colonel and a few other soldiers and mercenaries to the front did not take very long. At high speeds, no trip was super long but Madrig was not far anyways. Within a few minutes of leaving the outpost, her vehicle had stopped by the trenches where she jumped out and quickly jumped into the trenches knowing the situation.

She looked around and knew the rules of the battlefield. Bowing to the queen was formality elsewhere. No bowing on the battlefield. Formalities are a distraction on the battlefield. Just follow orders and fight. Ravenna knew this as her father made these rules, and she is keeping that rule going on.

She needed to get a good look at the no-man's land between the trenches and come up with ideas of how to beat it. She put on a helmet, grabbed binoculars and stepped up to the edge so as little of her head as possible was sticking over the edge of the trench.

The enemy trench was about 200 yards away with heavy gun turrents behind the trench, which has already wreaked havoc on transport vehicles trying to break the trench line. And about halfway between the trenches, a wall of barbed wire, taller than Ravenna. Unfortunately, none of the vehicles made it passed the barbed wire so it could be used as cover.

She turned around to address the colonel, "Well, they sure aren't going to make it easy for us. I guess we'll just have to outsmart them." Or perhaps, if one of those vehicles could be moved across the barbed wire. But how? I could.... no. I'm not ready to reveal my abilities yet.... But I may have no choice. We must get past that wire.

Ravenna would meet with the colonel later to discuss plans, but for now, she would do something her presense alone can do. She would inspire the troops and help raise morale. And if she's lucky, an enemy may show his head so she can take a few shots at him.

It was easy to follow Ravenna around on her tour, Satira just had to exude pheromones that said ignore me I belong here and everyone ignored her like she belonged there. Which she did, at least for now. Although she wasn't quite sure what they were looking at with all their tactical thoughts and considerations, as she'd not paid much attention during that part of her education. But she wasn't stupid and she could guess what their concerns were.

They had to break the lines, but those heavy machine guns were getting in the way. Didn't they have fliers? Fly up from on high and drop some bombs, or shit, some long-range mortars would blow lots of holes in those defensive fortifications.

She turned to say something to Ravenna, but it looked like she was about to start some kind of speech or other, do something inspiring. Looking at her more closely, it occurred to Satira that there was something different about the Warlord, something... brighter.

It almost felt like the sort of presence Satira had felt at times, over the past ten years or so. A sense of something greater waiting for her, somewhere out in the stars. She had no idea what it was, and had never had time to try and investigate, but if this chick had that sense too? It wasn't a coincidence that she was here, at this point in time.

Satira didn't believe in destiny, but at that moment she felt its touch nonetheless, like a shiver down her spine. She'd been staring blankly at Ravenna the whole time, waiting for her speech or whatever she would do.

Ravenna was about to make a small speech to the soldiers, but she felt something that was rather strange. There was a strange tingle that she felt that she had never felt before. This was at more than a physical level, but it seemed to flow through her. She knew not the source of this or what it was, but she would do her very best to ignore it.

"Soldiers of Socorro, for 10 years this world has lived in relative peace, united, secure, and strong. Now an inssurection has been started by the governor of Madrig who is trying to interrupt our peace and make war out of it. This is an unforgiveable act and must be punished. This will only end with the destruction of this inssurection and those who take part in it being either executed or sold into slavery. There is no other option for them."

She looked back over her shoulder and then back at her audience, "This is not going to be an easy fight. Many have died and it is likely many more will, but every one will be remembered. The Great Khainente will recognize the deeds of the fallen warriors and the fallen will receive their rewards in the next life. When the time comes, fight your hardest, kill those who resist us, and score a great victory for a united Socorro! I will be here beside you, fighting next to you until victory is seen!

She heard the cheers of her audience as she walked with the colonel to the command bunker to discuss how to win. As she was walking she still couldn't shake the feeling that she had. She still felt that tingling as if something was trying to tell her something. She was clueless and it was beginning to annoy her.

Satira tried not to roll her eyes at Ravenna's little speech. Nobody started insurrections just for the hell of it, this Governor had to have some kind of grievance against her. Was it Satira's problem? Well, if she got stabbed just so this backwater warbitch could get her murder-boner off, it damn sure would be. So she'd just have to try not to get stabbed, is all, because these pikers did not want her to make this her problem. Even if they didn't know it yet.

When the speech was over she shrugged and went on following Ravenna, over to another bunker. It was easy to slip in after her and her entourage by pretending she was part of it, which she was by now.

And it was easy to stand there, watching and listening to them planning things out. Although it was pretty obvious to her that the only viable plan they had, considering the weapons they had on hand, was to break the enemy's trench lines and force them to fall back. She remembered some old trucks out on the field, had they used those to try and bust through?

She sensed a lull in the conversation approaching, and stood a little straighter. Sure enough, the flow of voices quieted briefly, and she cleared her throat. "So does anyone know why they're rebelling?" she asked, her voice clear and carrying through the whole room. "Has anyone tried talking to them, to see if this can be worked out without hundreds of your soldiers dying for no reason?"

She felt eyes on her, but that wasn't anything out of place considering the way she dressed. "I mean, some of those people out there must have family in Madrig, right? You gonna make them kill each other, brother against brother and all that?" It was likely it would all go over their heads, since the Hawke woman seemed way too bloodthirsty for her own good. Satira figured she had to show her a different kind of thirst, if she got the chance...

Ravenna went into the command bunker with the ranking officers that were there as well as a few bounty hunters that officers sometimes hired to act as a bodyguard of sort. They all began discussing what the proper action to take would be. Options appeared to be limited at this point in time. Air drop, not possible due to anti-air batteries. Armored assault, heavy guns will take them out. Starve them out, that'll take way too long. The only option appeared to be to do an infantry charge.

Ravenna looked at the diagram of the battlefield. "Well, it looks like our options are limited. We must do an infantry assault and take their trench line. The problem is the barbed wire will hang up our soldiers and cause higher than acceptable losses.

She thought for a second, "I think I remember seeing armored transports knocked out of commission between the trenches before the barbed wire. If we were to somehow get those on the other side, we could perhaps use that for cover as our sappers cut through the wire and as we prepare our advance." She began to hear a few murmers wondering if that would be possible. Ravenna herself was questioning it. She knew she could control some objects without touching it, but was she strong enough for this? If she was, was she ready to let everyone know she had these abilities?

Then she heard some bounty hunter speak up and she was taken by shock a little. How dare she speak without being asked to speak. But this was not a horrible situation that it would be impossible to keep her composer, rather just a minor annoyance for now. She just calmly said, "Could whoever hired this bounty hunter keep her silent? Remind her of her place? She looked around and it seemed that nobody was taking credit for it.

Satira was unfazed by the sudden threat. "Careful which hand you touch me with," she told the nearest guard, her voice calm and sweet but with a chilling icy edge to it. "I might decide to keep it." That was enough to make him hesitate, and she ignored him from that point onward. "Anyone else care to contribute to my collection of hands? I need some fresh ones pretty soon..."

Again, no one seemed eager to step forward, so she shrugged and approached the planning table herself. "Look, I was with the Mandalorians for a long time so I know my way around a battlefield. And this? This is fucking suicide, they've got too many heavy machine guns. And obviously you can't go in by air, not with the rattletraps I saw lying around; send someone to your spaceports, see if any smugglers or mercenaries have any starships with proton torpedoes who can attack from high orbit. Or like, don't you have any long-range mortars or howitzers?"

"You heard the queen, bitch, fu-" one soldier finally growled, stepping forward and moving to grab her by the shoulder. She didn't even turn around, she just reached behind her; there was a shhnkt! noise, and a long, thin blade shot out of her gauntlet, pinning the man in place by his crotch.

"Think very carefully before finishing that sentence, di'kut," she said calmly, her eyes on Ravenna until the man backed away again. "Now then, if you want to move those transports, you might try low-grade shaped explosives if any of them are close enough to the lines. But in all honesty, the only way you can resolve this without thousands of dead soldiers is through diplomacy. Udesiir."

But she highly doubted any of them knew that word.

Ravenna was considering just shooting this bounty hunter herself, but she was intrigued by the guts that she had. Most would become silent when Ravenna told them to, but she wasn't. Most wouldn't resist the multiple guards that were going to escort her out and take her to a prison, but she did. Ravenna didn't see someone who was just acting out of line. No, she saw a warrior, and someone who might be a useful ally.

She smiled a little when she hear that this person was a Mandalorian and seemingly wanting to help her. Perhaps she shall take advantage of this opportunity. "Hmm.... I guess it could be wise to send a messenger to see if anyone wishes to give space support. I don't believe they have guns that can handle ships in space. I shall have a messenger sent at once to retrieve that information. Unfortunately, our artillery production facility is within Madrig and is not quite complete yet. So that is not an option."

She paused for a second, "Now as for your idea for diplomacy, surely you can understand the implications of that beroya. If we give them any ground because of this, anyone looking to seek power for themselves here might think that rebellion is acceptable if the insurrectionists are not punished. Socorro was united under my father, much of it peacefully, but many were conquered. And if Socorro is to be strong, it must be unified. Unfortunately many don't see it this way, or others, like the governor of Madrig, want it to be under their rule. We must send a clear message to anyone who thinks like that. Unless you think you can talk him into negotiating a deal favorable to us."

"You want to project strength? Strength is in conserving the power of your armies for greater threats; strength is in defeating your enemies without firing a single shot. Sure, you can charge their lines, but even if you win, your armies are that much weaker afterward, and the next upstart will know this. Or you can negotiate, bring Madrig back under your control, and their army joins yours again. Now you're that much stronger, and you don't have to worry about bad blood among your subjects."

Satira looked back at the planning table, wondering what else she could say. "If nothing else, you could lure the governor out into the open, deal with him yourself one-on-one. Or perhaps trial by champion? No need to risk your own pretty skin after all, hm?"

"We ain't gotta champion though," one of the soldiers commented.

She just rolled her eyes at that, since the answer was painfully obvious. "If you really think a direct charge can win, by all means try. But remember what I've said. You can spare the lives of your men and project yourself as wise and strong if you can deal with Madrig without a fight, trust me on that one. You control the news and the media here, right?"

The best bounties were the ones brought back alive, after all. Every good bounty hunter knew that.

Ravenna thought about this for a second, She may be onto something. I'm almost certain that I can defeat the leader of this petty rebellion in single combat and wound him, and then I can use him as an example to people all around. I think I might do that...

She looked over at the bounty hunter and said, "Very well beroya. I shall challenge him to single combat. Col. Lionara, do you have a blue flag around here?"

"Yes my lady," he quickly said.

"Very well. Well beroya this is how it works on this world. Whenever soldiers see a leader walk out under a blue flag, all soldiers put their weapons down and the person with equivalent rank or closest to it from the other side will walk out under blue flag to fight in single combat. Each combatant walks out there with one other person, and since you suggested this, you shall walk out there with me, carrying my sword."

She was confident that she could win this fight. It was only a question of if the governor of Madrig would follow the traditions that have been in place for centuries. Of this, she was not the most confident.

Satira kept a straight face, but inside she was surprised. She hadn't expected Ravenna to agree so soon; she had expected to have to use her more exotic talents at some point. Maybe she would still have to use them, in a way that wouldn't be cheating. Then again what did she care? She was here for a reason, and she didn't need these backwater hillbillies finding out so soon.

Outwardly she pretending to think about it, then shrugged. "Sure, I'm up for some action," she replied. She glanced at the table again. "Best to get out there quick, before the soldiers get antsy." She had never had much use for other peoples' traditions, but hopefully Boss Madrig did or this was gonna be a really shitty stalemate.

"Lead the way, then," and she stepped aside, gesturing to the door.

Ravenna grabbed a sword and handed it to the bounty hunter and walked out of the bunker with the solid blue banner. She knew the traditions of the planet and knew that the enemies knew said traditions. She could only hope that they would respect the traditions of the past. If not, she would be dead within a few minutes.

She held the blue banner high as she stepped up and out of the trenches. She could see that her soldiers were nervous, but Ravenna wasn't. If this was her time to go, she had a list of successors in her office that one of her most trusted advisors knew where to find. She was confident that she could win this fight, but she was always told growing up that too much confidence was a horrible thing to have.

She made her way to the barbed wire line while holding the flag high, seemingly being respected so far. She picked up a voice amplifier and spoke into it, "ATTENTION INSURRECTIONISTS!!! YOU ARE IN DIRECT REBELLION AGAINST THE WARLORD OF SOCORRO! YOU ALL ARE SUBJECT TO EXECUTION! BUT I AM MAKING A PROPOSAL! THE GOVERNOR OF MADRIG IS TO COME FORTH AND ACCEPT MY CHALLENGE! SHOULD I WIN, YOU ALL DROP YOUR WEAPONS AND CEASE YOUR REBELLION, WITH AN OPPORTUNITY OF AMNISTY FOR YOU! IF HE WINS, HE RECIEVES MY THRONE! I EXPECT A FIGHT FROM HIM TODAY, UNLESS HE'S AFRAID TO FIGHT A LITTLE GIRL!"

She put down the amplifier and took a deep breath. She only hoped that he responded. If he didn't, it would be likely that his forces might desert as he was dishonorable. She looked over at the bounty hunter, "I never caught your name. I can tell you're from off world so you might not know me. I'm Ravenna Hawke, warlord of Socorro. Yours?"

Satira didn't know the first thing about swords, but this one was in its sheathe so she shrugged and followed along. Partway there though, she noticed a generator next to a makeshift outhouse. "Ah, just a moment, don't wait up," she called, setting the sword down and heading over so she could relieve herself. After doing so she stepped back out, tweaked something on her gauntlets and grabbed the live wires coming off the generator; there was a small shower of sparks, but she didn't seem bothered, and a few seconds later there was a soft ding! and she released the wires, now with her gauntlets buzzing faintly with stored energy.

She caught back up to Ravenna just as she was giving her speech, and couldn't help but compare it to how she'd have done it. More tits, definitely. Would she need the loudspeaker? Eh. Satira knew she could boss people around even if she didn't often bother to, preferring to prod others along into doing the thinking instead.

And if they got the credit for it? That was okay too, it let her more room to do her own work.

"I know who you are, everyone on this planet knows who you are," she replied with a smirk as she offered the blade back. Not so much anyone off planet, though. "I'm Satira, Satira Skirata. Bounty hunter for the Hutts." The queen didn't offer her hand, so Satira didn't offer hers, and watched for the governor of Madrig to show up one way or another.

Ravenna smiled a little at Satira's comment, "Nice to meet you Satira Skirata. I'm glad to know that I've made enough of a name for myself that you know who I am by sight." She was glad that she was beginning to make a name for herself. She had been a bit focused on securing this world for the past few years and hadn't really focused much on looking out yet.

But she felt that when she did decide to look out and look for potential friends and trading partners, the Hutts would be one of the first ones she looks to from what she had been told. But here she had a Hutt bounty hunter who might be able to give her a little more insight to the Hutts.

"So you mentioned that you're a bounty hunter for the Hutts? I've heard mixed reviews of the Hutts. But from what I've gathered, once I try to push out into the stars the Hutts might be a good friend to have. What would your opinion be?" She knew it would be bias, but she decided she best ask anyways. A desire to be on good terms with her bosses can't be a bad thing.

She then noticed two men walking up from the enemy trenches. She stood and saw that it was indeed the Governor of Madrig. She stared right at him as he began to make his approach. She knew that now was the time that would decide the future of Socorro.
